Ways to make sure your questions and concerns are heard during appointments.

Everyone deserves care that is respectful and responsive. Speaking up for yourself can be easier with a few simple strategies.

Write your main concern down and raise it at the start of the appointment. Repeat back what you heard to check your understanding, and ask what the next steps are. You are welcome to bring a trusted person with you.

If you feel your concerns were not addressed, you can ask for a follow-up, request a second opinion or contact the patient relations office at your clinic or hospital.
