Mental Health Basics: Knowing When to Reach Out

a tablet with the words mental health matters on it

An overview of everyday mental health and the many ways to find support that feels right for you.

Mental health is part of overall health, and everyone has periods when they feel stretched, low or overwhelmed. Reaching out early, whether to a friend, a community member or a professional, can make those periods easier to manage.

Support can look different for different people. Some find it helpful to talk with a family doctor, others look for a counsellor who understands their culture and lived experience, and many lean on faith, family and community networks.

If you are unsure where to start, your family doctor or a community health centre can help you understand the options available in your area. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services right away.
